Getting Started

How to create an account

Download the Batiwi app from the App Store or Google Play, or visit batiwi.com. Tap 'Sign Up', enter your email address or phone number, and create a secure password. You will receive a verification code via email or SMS — enter it to activate your account.

Completing KYC verification

To deposit, trade, and withdraw freely, you must verify your identity. Go to Profile → Verification and follow the steps. You will need a government-issued ID (National ID, passport, or driver's licence) and may be asked to take a brief selfie. Verification is usually approved within 24 hours.

Setting up two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your account. Go to Profile → Security → Two-Factor Authentication and follow the setup instructions. We strongly recommend enabling 2FA before making any transactions.

Trading

How to place a prediction

Browse the markets on the home feed or search for a specific event. Open a market, review the question and resolution source, then tap 'Yes' or 'No' to take a position. Enter your stake amount, confirm the transaction, and your shares will appear in your portfolio.

Understanding market prices

Share prices represent the crowd's probability estimate for an outcome — a Yes price of ₦65 means the market collectively gives that outcome a 65% chance. Prices fluctuate as more people trade. You can sell your shares at any time before resolution to lock in gains or cut losses.

Selling your shares before resolution

Open your Portfolio, select the position you want to exit, and tap 'Sell'. You will see the current market price and your estimated return. Confirm the sale and your balance is updated immediately.

How markets are resolved

Each market lists its official resolution source (e.g., INEC results, BBC Sport, CoinGecko). Once the outcome is confirmed by that source, the market is settled. Winning shares are redeemed at ₦100 and losing shares at ₦0. Resolution typically happens within a few hours of the event concluding.

Payments

How to deposit funds

Go to Wallet → Add Funds. Choose your preferred method (bank transfer, debit card, or other supported options). Enter the amount and follow the prompts. Bank transfers are usually reflected within a few minutes; card payments are instant.

How to withdraw your balance

Go to Wallet → Withdraw. Enter your bank account details and the withdrawal amount. Withdrawals are processed within 1–3 business days. You must have completed KYC verification to withdraw.

Supported payment methods

Batiwi supports Nigerian bank transfers (NUBAN), debit cards, and select fintech wallet integrations. Supported options are shown at checkout and may vary based on your account status.

Transaction fees

Deposits are free. A small platform fee is applied to winning positions at resolution. Withdrawal fees (if any) are shown in full before you confirm — you will never be charged a hidden fee.

Account

Updating your profile information

Go to Profile → Edit Profile to update your display name, profile picture, or contact details. Your registered email address and phone number can only be changed by contacting support@batiwi.com for security reasons.

Managing notification preferences

Go to Profile → Notifications to choose which alerts you receive — market resolutions, price movement alerts, promotional updates, and more. You can manage email and push notification settings independently.

Deactivating or deleting your account

To deactivate your account (temporary hold), email support@batiwi.com with the subject 'Account Deactivation'. To permanently delete your account and all associated data, email support@batiwi.com with the subject 'Account Deletion'. Deletion is irreversible — withdraw any remaining balance first.

Troubleshooting

I can't log in to my account

Try resetting your password via the 'Forgot Password' link on the login screen. If 2FA is enabled, ensure you have access to your authentication method. If you still cannot access your account, contact support@batiwi.com with your registered email address and a description of the issue.

My deposit hasn't arrived

Bank transfer deposits typically arrive within a few minutes but may take up to 2 hours during peak periods. If your deposit has not appeared after 2 hours, take a screenshot of your bank's payment confirmation and send it to support@batiwi.com.

My withdrawal is taking longer than expected

Withdrawals are processed within 1–3 business days. If yours has not arrived after 3 business days, email support@batiwi.com with your account email, withdrawal amount, and destination bank details.

I believe a market was resolved incorrectly

File a dispute within 48 hours of resolution by emailing disputes@batiwi.com with the market name, your position, and verifiable evidence. See our Dispute Resolution Policy for full details.
