Trading Prohibition & Integrity Policy

This policy sets out the categories of users, activities, and markets that are prohibited on Batiwi. It exists to protect the integrity of our markets and the safety of every participant.

1. Purpose of This Policy

To ensure a fair, transparent, and trustworthy prediction market environment, Batiwi prohibits individuals and institutions from participating in markets where they have material non-public information or any ability to influence the outcome. This policy protects the integrity of the platform and its users.

2. General Rule of Prohibition

You may not participate in a market on Batiwi if:

  • You are directly employed by, officially affiliated with, or contracted by a source of influence on the outcome.
  • You possess material non-public information about the event.
  • You can influence, determine, or significantly affect the outcome of a market directly or indirectly.

3. Categories of Prohibited Participants

A. Political Markets

Cannot participate in elections, political appointments, or legislative markets:

  • Public office holders
  • INEC officials
  • Political-party staff
  • Government workers with insider access
  • Political consultants or lobbyists

B. Entertainment & Music Markets

Cannot participate in markets relating to music rankings, content releases, award nominations, etc.:

  • Artists and producers
  • Record-label employees
  • Chart editors or aggregators
  • Social influencers tied to promotions

C. Sports Markets

Cannot participate in contests regarding performance, transfers, injuries, or match outcomes:

  • Players in Nigerian leagues or international games
  • Referees, VAR analysts, medical personnel
  • NFF, CAF officials or affiliated staff
  • Those with embargoed pre-release access

D. Business, Tech & Crypto Markets

Cannot participate in markets about company decisions, future launches, financial reports, etc.:

  • Founders, board members, fintech operators
  • Token creators, mutual holders
  • PR firms with early access to campaigns
  • SEC Nigeria, EFCC officials with oversight roles

4. Source Institutions in Nigeria & Africa

Prohibited participants also include institutions or bodies that can influence or directly impact market outcomes:

  • INEC: Electoral body; cannot participate in political markets.
  • NBC: Influences media coverage; barred from entertainment predictions.
  • NFF, CAF: Regulated football; barred from sports market participation.
  • EFCC, CBN, SEC Nigeria: Financial regulators; barred from business markets.
  • Ministry of Information & Culture: Government narratives; barred from sensitive markets.
  • NBS, National Bureau of Statistics: Generates data; cannot participate in markets based on stats releases.
  • African Union, ECOWAS, etc.:Can't participate in geopolitical or regional outcome markets.
  • NCA (National Orientation Agency): Oversees entertainment regulation.

5. Conflict of Interest and Third-Party Contractors

Any third-party vendor, contractor, or community-trusted partner with privileged access to market-related data, content, or decision-making channels are also strictly prohibited from participation.

6. Penalties and Enforcement

Violation of this policy will be subject to:

  • Immediate account suspension or permanent ban
  • Forfeiture of all market winnings and forfeited assets in funds
  • Public flagging of accounts for transparency where applicable
  • Referral to law-enforcement or regulatory agencies, especially in cases of fraud, collusion, or data misuse

7. Reporting Mechanism

If you identify any individual or entity breaking this policy, please report them to us: report@batiwi.com.

All reports will be treated with utmost confidentiality and may be eligible for whistleblower protection if anonymity is requested.

8. Updates to the Policy

This document is reviewed periodically in line with emerging risk profiles, changing regulatory guidance, and market trends. Users will be notified of any material changes.
